AUDIO: Gay Marriage Debate Present at Candidate Forum on School Issues
After John Swanson worried about 'fractured families,' Steve Simon said that's a good reason to oppose the marriage amendment.
The candidate forum hosted by the Hopkins School District’s Legislative Action Coalition was centered on school issues, but that didn’t keep the contentious marriage amendment debate from entering the conversation.
While discussing ways to close the achievement gap between white students and students of color, John Swanson, the Republican challenger for District 46A, pointed to what he sees as incentives that lead to “fractured families.”
Steve Simon, the DFL incumbent for District 46B, said that’s one reason to vote against a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between one man and one woman, reflecting existing state law.
