Hopkins Partners with SW Metro Cities to Help Military Service Members

Hopkins will celebrate its participation in the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program on Saturday, as it joins Edina, Hopkins and Minnetonka in a partnership to help members of the Minnesota National Guard and their families.

Jason Gadd, Hopkins City Council Member and Committee Co-Chair, said, “We are excited to be a part of this joint effort between our cities to provide services and resources to our veterans and military families.  We look forward to seeing the volunteer network of the four cities in action."

The four cities have taken a regional approach to participation in the program, a strategy designed to allay local leaders' concerns that the program would be a burden for city staff.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon has been active in the southwest metro since September 2012, with volunteers for the group undertaking projects such as helping a female veteran who had been living in her car find an apartment and moving a hospital bed from a home in Wayzata to the apartment of a veteran in St. Paul.

The proclamation ceremony and celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hopkins Downtown Park, 40 9th Ave. S.
