Paint It Green: Animal Masks and Shakers

  • Tuesday, April 3, 2-3 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Register online or call 612-543-6400.
  • K-grade 6. Pick your favorite region of the world and we will make masks and shakers that represent several of the animals indigenous to that region. Materials provided.

This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with ArtStart.

 

Make This: Fashion Design

  • Wednesday, April 4, 2-4 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Register online or call 612-543-6400.
  • Grades 7-12. Deconstruct, up-cycle and modify old clothing. Basic sewing, appliqué and surface design techniques that push the limits of ordinary fashion will be demonstrated. Bring along a few pieces of clothing that you aren’t afraid to cut-up, color or fray.

Master Gardener: Growing Berries in Minnesota

  • Tuesday, April 10, 6 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Would you like fresh berries on your cereal or mixed into your pancakes? Learn about selecting a growing site, the berries that grow well in our area (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries), common diseases and how to preserve your produce.

Presented in collaboration with Hennepin County Master Gardeners, University of Minnesota Extension.

 

Children's Day/Book Day Celebration: Art Open House and Puppet Show

  • Tuesday, April 17, 6:30 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Calling all girls and boys to enjoy the Nalah and the Pink Tiger puppet show at the library! Also admire the display of puppets made by students from Alice Smith Elementary under the direction of local bilingual artist Anne Sawyer-Aitch. Puppets will be on display April 16-30.

Portraits of Us

  • Saturday, April 28, 1-4 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Registration required; begins March 31; limit 18. Celebrate what makes your corner of Minnesota special. Bring a family treasure along and have your family portrait taken – one copy for you to take home and one to be displayed at the library. A preservation expert will be on hand to offer advice on preserving the treasure.

This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Sponsored by MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency) and presented in collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society.

 

Kids Book Club Online

  • Monday, April 2-Friday, April 6
  • Register online or call 612-543-6400.
  • Grades 4-6 Join other kids to talk about a great book! Participate in the book discussion through www.kidlinks.org, Monday-Friday, any time of day. You must have a current email address (may use family email) and a computer with Internet access to participate.
