Weather Service Declares Tornado Watch Over Hopkins

The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday.

A tornado watch is in effect for parts of Minnesota, including Hopkins, until 11 p.m. Sunday.

Severe thunderstorms developing across southwest Minnesota are expected to spread northeast, affecting central Minnesota late Sunday afternoon.

“Large hail and damaging winds are the main severe weather threats, but a tornado cannot be ruled out,” the weather service’s advisory stated.

Winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts of 40 mph, are possible later in the night as the storm leaves the area.
