Statement from the city of Golden Valley says the officer was not injured.

A Golden Valley police officer shot and killed a woman on I-394 near the St. Louis Park-Minnetonka border Thursday afternoon.

The officer tried to stop a woman in a vehicle on I-394 near Highway 169, according to a statement from Stacy Carlson, Golden Valley police chief. The driver pulled the car to the side of 394 near the Hopkins Crossroads.

"The lone occupant of the vehicle, an adult female, was in possession of a handgun and was subsequently fatally shot by the officer," Carlson's statement said. "The officer did not sustain any injuries."

St. Louis Park resident Sidney Myers, who was driving on a frontage road in the area, said he heard three, quick gunshots from his car.

"Just 'bang, bang, bang' in a row," he said. "(But) I didn't see anything."

After the incident, there was lots of honking as cars backed up on the I-394. A group of 20 or so people watched from a fence. A news chopper flew overhead, and media gathered at another portion of the fence overlooking the scene

People driving on the frontage roads asked people standing around what had happened, as there was nothing much to see while officers continued their investigation.

Patch will have further details as they become available.
