Prosecutors Drop Charge Against Assault Suspect

Prosecutors have dropped the charge against a woman accused of assaulting her boyfriend, Police Sgt. Michael Glassberg said.

The unidentified man told police that Brittany Danielle Scheuing shoved him from behind, causing him to go through a glass door during a June 29 argument.

Scheuing told Patch that she never pushed the man. She said they got in an argument and that he tripped as he left the home—injuring himself when he tried to brace his fall on a little window above the door.

She was initially charged with third-degree assault, but Glassberg said that charge was dropped because of the man’s lack of cooperation.

According to the County Attorney’s Office, prosecutors dismissed the case Sept. 18 after the victim told the defense attorney he would not testify against Scheuing and then fled the state. His location is unknown.

Both Glassberg and the County Attorney’s Office said that it is not unusual in domestic violence cases for victims to be uncooperative or change their story.
