Two men are accused of using a stun gun on a resident to force their way into a Hopkins apartment and then hitting two men on the head with a wrench, according to court records filed Tuesday.
Police went to the apartment complex Thursday following a report of an unknown disturbance, Officer Stacy Lakotas wrote in the criminal complaint. There they met an unidentified woman who said two men had assaulted her boyfriend and another man.
When they went to the apartment, they found the alleged victims and noted that they both had wounds on their heads.
The woman said she had been in the bathroom when she heard a commotion. She went into the living room and saw her boyfriend and the other man wrestling with two men she identified as Richard Ellis Hill, her ex-boyfriend, and Thomas William Ray Stevens.
She said the men were able to eventually force Hill and Stevens out the door. But after they had done so, someone pushed the door in on them from the outside. One of the men inside the home said they pushed back on the door until someone used a stun gun on his friend’s arm.
The men said Hill and Stevens then entered the apartment carrying a pipe wrench and a metal baton, according to the court documents. One of the men wrestled with Stevens and was hit in the head with the wrench while they were wrestling. The other fought Hill, whom the man accused of also hitting him in the head with a wrench.
The men were eventually able to force Hill and Stevens out of the apartment, according to the court documents.
Hill, 43, of Minnetonka, told police that he went to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment to get a television and that he entered the apartment without being let in when no one answered his knocks. He added that he brought Stevens with him and that they were forced out of the apartment.
Prosecutors have charged both men with first-degree burglary—a felony with a sentence of between six months and 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine.
Hill is being held in Hennepin County jail on $100,000 bond. He’s scheduled to have his next appearance in court at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 23.
Stevens, 37, address unknown, has not yet been arrested, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Police Sgt. Michael Glassberg said anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately.
"We'd like to get him in custody right away," Glassberg said.
