Police: Hopkins 17-year-old Stole Car From Eden Prairie Home

Bloomington Police found the car parked at La Quinta Inn, and police arrested the Hopkins teen when he came out of the hotel to drive it.

A 17-year-old teen from Hopkins is facing serious charges after police suspect him of burglarizing a home in Eden Prairie.

The juvenile faces two felony charges for second degree burglary and motor vehicle theft.

Sometime between 1 p.m. on July 7 and 9:30 a.m. on July 8, a home on the 18000 block of Evener Way was burglarized. The homeowners were out of town, but a friend of the family noticed a 2002 black Volvo missing from the garage.

The family friend noticed the door inside the garage to the Eden Prairie home was ajar, a flatscreen TV had been taken and contents from the drawers in the master bedroom had been scattered on the floor. Police found the point of entry to be a lower level window which had been broken and the screen cut.

On July 10 just after 6 a.m., Bloomington Police found the car parked at La Quinta Inn on 7815 Nicollet Avenue South. They identified the suspect when he came out of the hotel with a couple of friends to get into the car.

The car has been recovered, but the TV has not.
