Investigators Still Chasing Leads in June Auto Burglaries

Police continue the investigation while awaiting crime lab results.

Hopkins police continue to investigate two large-scale underground garage break-ins that took place in June, Police Sgt. Michael Glassberg said Thursday.

in underground garages along Blake Road and Hiawatha Avenue. Thieves also in an underground garage on 11th Street South in downtown Hopkins. 

In all, the thieves caused an estimated $20,000 in damage during the two incidents. They stole mostly electronic items, such as GPS units. They also took a car during the second incident.

Investigators are chasing down leads while awaiting analysis from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office crime lab on evidence that Hopkins police submitted, Glassberg said.

"We'll wait on that and see if that generates new leads," he said.

Results are still a few months away because of backlogs at the crime lab. Investigators typically look for fingerprints and DNA samples.
