Hopkins Man Charged With Rape

The suspect is being held on $500,000 bond.

A Hopkins man is in jail on suspicion of raping a 32-year-old woman Tuesday.

Jori Leigh Netka, 36, has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and is being held on $500,000 bond.

Police learned of the alleged assault at 5:13 a.m. Wednesday when officers were dispatched to a Blake Road pay phone to meet with the victim, according to court documents. The woman said that Netka took her out to lunch and then invited her back to his Cambridge Street apartment—where they watched movies, ate dinner and drank vodka.

She said that everything was going fine until Netka “suddenly snapped,” according to court documents. He allegedly insisted that the woman go into his bedroom and then got mad when she refused. She said he punched her several times on the back of the head and pulled her hair and then played a pornographic movie while he continued to hit her in the face. He is also alleged to have choked her, bit her and walked around the room with a knife—in addition to raping her.

After the alleged rape, Netka threw the woman her clothes when she asked to leave and said, "That's okay. You wore out your welcome," according to court documents.

When police encountered the woman, they noticed that her face was swollen, with bruising near her right eye, and that both sides of her neck were reddened.

Netka said he and the victim had consensual sex and said “he did not recall any choking hitting or roughness,” according to court documents.

He is scheduled to appear in court again April 26.
