Highway 7/Blake Road Intersection Ranks 10th Worst in State

The intersection had 124 crashes between 2006 and 2010.

The Highway 7 and Blake Road/Aquila Avenue intersection near the Hopkins and St. Louis Park border is the 10th most dangerous in the state, MinnPost determined using five years of data from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Between 2006 and 2010, the intersection tallied two crashes with moderate injuries, 55 with minor injuries and 67 with property damage. The 124 total crashes resulted in 1.29 crashes per million vehicles entering the intersection.

MinnPost noted that engineers recently reshaped the intersection, which should cut down at crashes.

To determine the rankings, point values were assigned based on the severity of the crashes—with fatalities worth 70 points and property damage crashes worth one point.

The junction of Highway 23 and Minnesota 15 in St. Cloud topped MinnPost’s list. It had 251 total crashes, including one fatality, for a crash rate of 2.72 per million.

I cross 7 at least 2x/day there + it's awful---I'm not sure what they call "reshaping" -changing Blake to 7E turn lane?- but when they were working on it they should have just put one roard over the other road-it IS an horrible impossible intersection! The Blake to 7W turn lane is always backed up into the regular traffic lane causing no where for cars to go straight--(I was rear ended at the NEXT intersection because of the back up). The lights are impossible to get through + people are always running red lights so they don't have to wait for the next. The turn off Blake into Knollwood is horriffic-mainly because of the backup into the lot-so is the one to turn to Target area--always backed up into traffic going straight. Then you have the idiots that have to cross 3 lanes of traffic so they can make a turn-usually without a signal. I've always said it's an accident waiting to happen.
