FBI Investigating Whether Brewster Robbery Suspect is 'Man in Black'

(UPDATED: 2:59 p.m. Jan. 4) The FBI is investigating whether a man arrested on suspicion of robbing a Brewster bank is the same “man in black” who hit a and others in the Twin Cities, according to an FBI news release.

St. Peter Police arrested 49-year-old Mark Edward Wetsch, of Minneapolis, on Tuesday afternoon after he was seen traveling in a vehicle suspected of being used in a robbery at Brewster’s Rolling Hills Bank at 11:50 a.m. the same day.

The FBI expects that Wetsch will be formally charged in connection with the Brewster robbery.

It is currently evaluating whether Wetsch is the “man in black” who is suspected of hitting at least a half-dozen other banks around the Twin Cities—including the robbery of the Hopkins branch Dec. 5.

Wetsch, the former nursing director of Sholom Home West in St. Louis Park, was convicted in 2005 of taking $1.4 million from the senior care facility through an invoice scheme that occurred between September 1997 and January 2005.
