Blotter: Earthworms, Marijuana and Unattended 1-Year-Olds

A weekly selection of incidents drawn from Hopkins police files.

Monday, April 30

  • 11:53 a.m. — Police ticketed a man for fifth-degree assault after he assaulted a security guard at Supervalu.
  • 2:56 p.m. — A resident told police someone broke into a property on the 900 block of Second Street North and stole $1,000 worth of property. The burglar appeared to have entered through a window sometime in the hour before the crime was reported.
  • 9:38 p.m. — A Robinwood Lane man said a woman he sold a video game system to on Craigslist was threatening him and texting him. He said she told him, “You better watch yourself,” and was waiting for him in the parking lot for hours. Officers talked to the person.
  • 11:16 p.m. — An Auburn North resident told police a couple in a van were “doing weird things.” He couldn’t elaborate on what he meant. Officers ticketed the couple for an unspecified offense. 

Tuesday, May 1

  • 10:33 p.m. — A Westside Village woman said her boyfriend was suicidal but then said it was a trick to get her to leave the house so that he could rob her. Officers talked with both people.

  • 6:01 a.m. — Police went to Raspberry Ridge Co-op and then took a man to Hennepin County jail for an unspecified offense.
  • 7:16 p.m. — Someone found a child about 1 years old near the intersection of Westbrooke Way and Old Settlers Trail without any adult around. The child was reunited with a parent.

Thursday, May 3

  • 12:29 a.m. — A drunken man at on Main was making suicidal comments and said he is at his vehicle looking for his gun. Officers found him behind the tavern and detained him.
  • 9:06 p.m. — Police went to after someone heard what sounded like a fight. Officers ticketed one person for marijuana possession.

  • 2:21 p.m. — A Minnetonka Mills resident said a narcotics prescription had been stolen.
  • 8:57 p.m. — A woman told police that a man inside a minivan knocked on the window from the inside and tried to convince her to come over to the van near the intersection of Shady Oak Road and Excelsior Boulevard. The van left eastbound on Excelsior. It was red and had “security” written on the side.

Saturday, May 5

  • 2:04 a.m. — Police took a drunken man to detox after he was reported causing a disturbance at .
  • 3:25 p.m. — Police went to the intersection of St. Albans Road West and Minnetonka Boulevard following a report of a suspicious person. The suspicious person turned out to be a man who lives in the area who was out looking for earthworms. He was returning home with his “catch.”
