Community Corner

I support Michael Doobie Kurus for Hopkins School Board

As a Hopkins resident and mother of two school-age children I pay close attention to the Hopkins School Board races.  I want to be sure the School Board Members have the best interests of the students, teachers, and staff in mind when they make decisions that shape the future of our district. If I could create my ideal candidate for school board, I would opt for someone who has deep roots in the community, experience as a district parent, and understands the inner workings our district's schools. Fortunately for me me, I don't have to create such a candidate, as Michael Doobie Kurus is running for our Board. Doobie's community involvement is varied, and shows a commitment to making life better for residents of Hopkins and beyond, and honors the great diversity found in Hopkins.  He has been heavily involved with the schools his three children have attended in our district from their early childhood days to the present.   His contributions have focused on economic challenges in our community and enriching the academic experience for all students.  I had the pleasure of working with him on the Early Childhood Family Education Parent Council, where his energy and support was a gift to the program.

Doobie's experience as a special education teacher in Minneapolis and his volunteerism in the district means he understands the strengths and challenges of our district. He has a vested interest as a district parent, teacher and community member to make the very best decisions for our district and our students. I eagerly look forward to voting for him, and can't wait to see what he brings to our School Board. Thank you, Doobie, for stepping up for our kids!
