Talented Saxophonist & MTC Driver Mr. Gary Berg: Entertaining Society & Serving The Citizens Of Hopkins: By Ms. Shelly D. Thomas
Gary has a wonderful predisposition, as well, he's a professional musician and a MTC Driver for the City of Hopkins and a wonderful man. Gary deserves recognition for all the wonderful things he contributes to society including the City of Hopkins. I know he's a gracious, modest, sharp, energetic peaceful man. Lets read in Gary's words a little about his life, starting with his music career and ending with his job for MTC Transit Services both which he's currently employed in.
"I started professionally while in high school. Started at the U of M in 1957. I took a quartet from the U of M to 1st annual collegiate Jazz Festival at the Notre Dame ( took 1st place in a "Small Group Category, 1959." Then played the "Blue Note" in Chicago for two weeks opposite Sarah Vaughn, in that same year, joined The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra in 1960 and stayed a few years, then came home to Minneapolis in 1973. I went to work as a bus driver (For MTC) during the day and for Jerry Mayeron Orchestra at night. The last few years I have been playing at Jazz Clubs like "The Artist Quarter in Saint Paul and "The Dakota" in Minneapolis, while driving for the 615 line in Hopkins Minnesota in the afternoons."
Indeed, Gary has been blessed with a fascinating life and is still going strong playing his saxophone, still working and is happily married!
