Some basic tips to take better photos

Here are some basic tips to improve your photography skills which can be expounded upon with our private photography lessons!  Hopefully, you'll have an opportunity to use them and create some phenomenally adventurous memories.

Tip One:  Watch your background.  Backgrounds are really important, they can help to improve a photo or take really ruin what would otherwise be a good photo.  Make sure there are no trees, light poles, signs growing out of peoples heads.  Can you take a step left of right in order to ensure a clean backdrop.

For example, look at the photo attached to this post.  I intentionally placed my models head in the center of all four colors.  It created a dynamic backdrop which adds to the photo.

Tip Two:  Don't always center your photo.  While there is absolutely nothing wrong with having your subject centered, can you make your photo more dynamic by placing your subject somewhere else in the frame.  The human eye/brain naturally looks for things that match the golden ratio (you can read about it more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio).

Tip Three:  Make sure you have a connection with your subject.  Instead of just snapping a photo, can you be conversing with them and getting them to feel relaxed.  A relaxed happy subject will always look more natural than one who just had a camera pulled on them and is being forced to say "cheese."  Have fun, joke around and be personable!
