(Obituary) René J. "Ray" Martineau

He was a WWII veteran who stormed the beaches at Normandy and a lifetime member of the Hokins VFW.

René J. "Ray" Martineau, 94, of Hopkins, passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2011. Survived by wife, Ilene; daughter, Shelley; son, Michael with special thanks to Mary Helmbrecht. Preceded in death by siblings, Elzea, Lara, Rosa, Oscar, Flora, Alma, Laurie, Yvonne, Ole, Lacille, Ann, Leo, and Aime. René's presence will be missed by all who knew him. His laugh could ignite the room and he always kept a positive attitude. He was a WWII veteran who stormed the beaches at Normandy. Ray was a life time member of the and a member of the ritual team for yrs. He loved to take long walks, read, sing and dance.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday Jan. 2 at the Sholom Home West Auditorium (3620 Phillips Parkway S., St. Louis Park) with Father Ralph Gomen officiating.

Memorials preferred to family or Hopkins VFW. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
