Blair's Tree of Hope

Our mission is to help the families of children who have a serious illness by providing them with meals, gas cards & grocery cards, parking passes, toiletries, magazines, books, etc.

Welcome to our first blog!  Thank you to the Patch for giving us this chance to share with you about Blair's Tree of Hope.

Blair's Tree of Hope is a registered 501c-3 non-profit organization, based out of Minneapolis, MN. We operate thanks solely to the hard work of our volunteers and donations from friends like you!

Blair's Tree of Hope became a 501c3 on 7/31/2007 and we have grown in leaps and bounds.  Our first year we helped 5 families and our goal for 2011-2012 was 27 families and as we near the end of our fiscal year end we have helped 87 families.  We work with Minneapolis Childrens and U of M Amplatz Children's hospitals and all families are referred to us from them according to our guidelines.

We have our 5th annual Kickball tournament which is held on the last Saturday of September at the Valley View Fields in Bloomington, MN.  Some of you may ask why a Kickball tournament - it is not your normal type of fundraiser. Memories are so important and that is what kickball is for our family.  After Blair was diagnosed with Cancer she spent almost 3 months at Childrens going through the chemo regiment.  The doctors encouraged us to do something really fun for the Labor Day weekend before Blair went U of M Amplatz for a Bone Marrow Transplant.  We were asked to come up to Alexandria with my daughter in law Jodi's family cabin and we said yes for sure.  They have an annual Kickball tournament and asked Blair if she wanted to participate and she surprised us by saying yes.  As we were enjoying the game it was now Blairs turn to kick and of course Tom and I held our breath as she started to play.  After Blair kicked the ball she started to run towards 1st base and her pants started to fall (she did have shorts on underneath) and of course every person around just stopped including the person who had the ball in hand.  Blair arrived at 1st base and pulled her pants up and turned to her family and gave us the biggest smile and her famous thumbs up sign....This was a day we will treasure forever as she said she felt like a normal kid.  This is why we have a kickball fundraiser so anyone can come and participate and feel like a normal kid.
