Hopkins Hooking Artists

Rug Hooking Artists meet weekly at the Hopkins Activity Center.

Primitive rug hooking is a crafting and hooking technique developed by homesteaders who were trying to create a warmer, more comfortable environment inside their homes. Wool from old garments would be repurposed into rugs because nothing was to be wasted. Primitive rug hooking uses strips of wool fabric and burlap to create rugs that are decorative and utilitarian.

Today this art continues to be a thriving craft at the Hopkins Activity Center every Wednesday, 10 am – 3 pm, by the Hopkins Hooking Artists.  Primitive rug hooking is an art form that repurposes and recycles once unwanted wool garments and cloth into beautiful rugs, pillows, wall hangings which are truly a work of art. Members of the group work on their individual projects while enjoying social time as well as sharing ideas and technique.
