State Fair Day 5: Stock Dogs, Drug-Sniffing Dogs and Sixties Songs

To know: It’s Seniors and Kids Day at the fair, and ticket prices are discounted by $3 for those over 64 and under 13. The rides at Mighty Midway and Kidway have a one ticket discount all day. The weather is expected to be 81 degrees with a 30 percent chance of rain. Check out the fair’s website for a full schedule of the day’s activities and events.

To see: Drug-sniffing K-9 dogs, rollover simulations, airbag deployments and the specialty vehicles and units of the Minnesota State Patrol. Events will be hosted all day on West Dan Patch Avenue and in Carousel Park.

To herd sheep: Stock dogs will compete from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Warner Coliseum. To amp yourself up, watch this video from the 2009 competition.

To hear: Country music singer Paulette Carlson plays at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell. The stage is home to free shows throughout the fair.

To come together: Bands from the ‘60s and ‘70s join forces for the Happy Together Tour. Playing at the grandstand at 8 p.m. will be The Association, The Grass Roots, The Buckinghams, Mark Lindsay, and The Turtles with Flo & Eddie. Tickets are available for $18.
