New Church Launches Sunday at Mann’s Theater

Family Church plans to use 'short films, drama and cutting edge technology' to teach people about the gospel.

This year, Easter Sunday in Hopkins isn’t just about celebrating new life. It’s about celebrating the opening of a new church.

Family Church will have its first service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Mann’s Hopkins Cinema 6, according to an ad mailed to residents this week.

Pastors Mark Harper and Debbie Harper aim to “build a church that recognizes that everyone has something to give regardless of his or her age,” according to the church’s website. The church will use “short films, drama and cutting edge technology” to teach people about the gospel.

"It’s going to be a new kind of church, where the generations come together and diversity is celebrated," Mark Harper wrote in his blog.

Family Church is overseen by pastors from three churches: Living Word Christian Center in Minneapolis, Faith Christian Family Church in Rushville, IL, and Living Word Family Church in Naples, FL.

Its website spelled out four beliefs:

  1. “The Bible is TRUE.
  2. “Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
  3. “You must be Born Again.
  4. “The Holy Spirit is working in us today.”

People are encouraged to come to the serviced dressed casually and enjoy a free cup of Starbucks coffee. There is also an Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the theater with more than 3,000 eggs. The church will give away an iPad Mini, and children can have free photos taken with the Easter Bunny.
