Artwork Shines at Longoria's UROC Reception

Local artist Jimmy Longoria's recent reception kicks off the busy summer mural season.

A very unique event took place on the evening of June 14th. Muralist Jimmy Longoria exhibited various pieces of his artwork at the University of Minnesota’s Urban Research and Outreach Center, located in North Minneapolis.

The exhibit featured Longoria’s distinct, vibrant artwork, as well as artwork by other members of his mural team. However, this was no ordinary reception. It marked the beginning of a productive summer for Longoria’s nonprofit, Mentoring Peace Through Art. On Monday, June 18th, Mentoring Peace Through Art will be very busy with the addition of more workers and more murals to paint. Mentoring Peace Through Art is partnered with the city of Minneapolis’ Step Up program, designed to give young people paid work experience during the summer. The reception gave Jimmy and the other members of his team the opportunity to meet a few of the young people who will be joining the project this summer.

All in all, the reception did not only showcase incredible artwork, but it also helped establish important connections between Mentoring Peace Through Art and the community.
