A Month's Progress

A brief summary of the past month with Mentoring Peace Through Art

After leaving the mural site for a month to attend a pre-college program in New York City, it was a shock and a surprise to return to Mentoring Peace Through Art and see the progress that this incredible team of people has made. During the month I was away, the STEP-UP interns had completed murals, mosaics, and even had a show of their own at the University of Minnesota’s Urban Research and Outreach Center.

The STEP-UP interns are currently working on a mural at 323 East Lake Street in Minneapolis. The building is owned by a Cambodian, therefore, the design will feature a Cambodian temple surrounded by a vibrant, tropical scene. perhaps more exciting is the fact that the another wall of the building will feature a design by two of our very own interns, Rheanna and Lisbeth.

The summer with STEP-UP is nearly two-thirds of the way through, but I feel as though teach intern has grown, matured, and developed a stellar work ethic through hard work and a lot of paint.

Also, you are invited to the premiere of At The Wall, a thirty minute documentary about our summer made by MCAD student Shelby Fossell. More details can be found here.
