Joel Blom inaugurated as 83rd president of Minnesota Jaycees

Joel Blom, a former president of the Hopkins Area Jaycees, was inaugurated as the 83rd president of the Minnesota Jaycees at the organization’s annual convention on Jan. 18.
Blom will serve as the public face of the Minnesota Jaycees, which empowers young people to create positive change in their local communities. The state organization includes more than 1,700 members — ages 18 to 40 — in 57 chapters.
“By getting involved and following a passion for service and creating a better place for all of us, I have been given this great opportunity to serve as the 83rd president of the Minnesota Jaycees,” Blom said. “The first step in reaching your dreams and goals is taking action. Take action on your goals and dreams, and who knows where it will lead you. It led me to this.”
Blom first joined the Jaycees in 2003 as a member of the Sartell chapter. He transferred to the Hopkins Area Jaycees in 2007 and was elected president of that chapter in 2012.
Blom has spearheaded many of the Hopkins Area Jaycees’ signature events, including youth sports competitions and the street dances held in conjunction with Raspberry Festival.
Blom previously served in leadership roles on the state level, as Membership Development and Community Development vice presidents, and has been recognized with many awards on the local, state and national level.
“In 2014, the Minnesota Jaycees will continue to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change, creating a better local community, a better state, a better nation and a better world,” Blom said. “By dreaming big and putting our passions into action, we will continue to make an impact all over the state of Minnesota.”
Blom is a native of Raymond, Minn., and is a 1994 graduate of MACCRAY High School. He is married to Beth Blom, also a former president of the Hopkins Area Jaycees, and they have one daughter, Greta.
