Pick the Perfect Flower for Valentine's Day

Glenrose Floral's Britta Wilson offered these recommendations to show those you love how much you care.

With so many types of flowers out there, it’s not always easy to pick an arrangement that sends just the right message.

But Valentine’s Day shoppers don’t have to rely on their own intuition. Britta Wilson, manager of , offered these recommendations to match your relationship status to the perfect flower.

  • For someone you love: Nothing says, “I love you,” like red roses. They classic, beautiful and oh-so-romantic.
  • For mature couples who’ve given many roses over the years: Those who’re looking for a different way to show their love than the traditional red rose should consider exotic alternatives such as orchids, hydrangeas and tropicals, including the bird-of-paradise.
  • For those who aren’t quite to love yet: Tulips give off a “like” feel that shows you care when your relationship isn’t at the “I love you” stage just yet.
  • For someone close but not in a romantic way: Valentine’s Day isn’t just for lovers. It’s also a great time to tell others you love how much you care about them. Lilies, Gerber daisies, alstroemeria and yellow roses give off a vibe of friendship or adoration, Wilson said. They are perfect in arrangements sent to mothers, daughters and sisters.
  • For those who really want to impress: Stargazer lilies, with their size and unique pattern, add flash to any bouquet. Any recipient is sure to be impressed when receiving an arrangement topped off by one of them. “It’s a good show-off flower,” Wilson said.
