Jacyln Garlock produces bold paintings on a large scale with interesting characters. Her work is representational to a degree, with each composition appearing to be a moment in time.  She has exhibited her work throughout the Midwest and now her images of lively and interesting people are coming to Hopkins.  This exhibition will include recent work of a series of ten paintings of people in and about the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA.

The artist describes her work: “Intense color and dominate imagery are the main elements in my work.  I want bold paint, subjects that are larger than life, art that speaks for itself and knocks your socks off. I want my art to interrupt you, make you stare, and not let you forget that it is there.

My art is a way of busting out of the mould, looking for a little less white bread and a lot more smoke. The images are an escape from the smothering politically correct, and hopefully injecting a little humor.  My women are in complete control, snapping their fingers and having a good time. They know how to laugh.”

Spark up your spring with a visit to this exhibition, free and open to the public.
