Music in the Park Starts Soon

The 1st John Philip Sousa Memorial Band kicks off the annual summer concert series June 23.

This year’s Music in the Park season is almost upon us.

Costumed members of the 1st John Philip Sousa Memorial Band kick off the season with a fife and drum concert June 23.

At 6:15 p.m., they’ll march through the downtown playing a rope tension drum and six-hole fifes to before returning to for the 7 p.m. concert.  All of the music the band will play is music that was played at “at historically significant events in the American Revolution,” according to a news release.

Seven more Music in the Park Concerts will follow the one on June 23. All concerts take place in Downtown Park at 16 Ninth Ave. S. Concerts will take place at the in the event of rain. 

7 p.m. June 30 Bend in the River Big Band 7 p.m. July 7 Jazz on the Prairie noon-1 p.m. July 14 Somewhat Dixieland Lunchtime Concert 7 p.m. July 14 Westwind Concert Band 7 p.m. July 21 Teddy Bear Band/Resistors 7 p.m. July 28 Xibaba Brazilian Sounds 7 p.m. Aug. 5 Echos of Elvis
