'Master Manipulations' Opening Reception

Master Manipulation, on view beginning March 1, will give viewers the opportunity to discuss historical master works and how they are being interpreted by today’s artists.

The Escape Artists are a group of six artists with studios in the Northrup King Building. The Escape Artists are committed to creating work that is fresh, which continues to expand their thought processes, and improves their skills. This collaborative exhibition was designed to push them beyond their artistic comfort zones and encourage them to discuss the art as a group, unlike the often solitary work of creating art.

In Master Manipulation, they will interpret a wide range of paintings by DaVinci, Munch, Monet, Dali, and more. Each of the six Escape Artists has created an interpretation of twelve famous works by influential master artists. The selected images of the famous historic paintings will be displayed with original contemporary paintings by each Escape Artist.

They were inspired by the masterwork, while bringing their own personality, painting style, and a variety of mediums into play. This demonstrates how different viewers respond to and translate art through their own lens. Each of the new works will be accompanied by a brief, descriptive story in the form of a “tweet” created by the artist.

The opening reception will be Saturday, March 3 from 6-8 pm. The reception, like the exhibitions, is open and free-of-charge to the public.
