A musician, a painter, and an art collector walk into a bar.  No, it’s not the set up for a bawdy joke—it’s the Arts Social Club, in Hopkins, Minnesota. The fourth Monday of each month, September-May from 6-8 pm, there is an informal gathering of visual artists, dancers, writers, performing artists and art lovers at the on historic Mainstreet, Hopkins. The gatherings are an opportunity for creative individuals to share ideas, learn about art events and opportunities in the area, and socialize. Often there is an open mic with impromptu musical performances, or a drawing for a door prize.

“The results of a survey of member artists at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in the spring of 2011 indentified the need for informal networking events that would bring together a wide variety of people involved in the creative fields. The Arts Social Club was created to meet that need. Members of the Visual Arts Advisory committee of the Hopkins Center for the Arts host the event,“ said Tricia Schweitzer, Committee Member. “Attendees have enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to meet with peers and arts lovers.”

Free appetizers and meeting space are provided by Wild Boar. No reservation is necessary, everyone is welcome and there is always interesting discussion. Upcoming meeting dates are February 27, March 26, April 23, and May 28th.
