Zambia Charity "Tiny Tim" Gets Top Billing at Hopkins Center for the Arts

Dr. Tim Meade heads a group helping treat Zambian children infected with HIV/AIDS.

Next week, a Minnetonka-based medical charity is coming to the Hopkins Center for the Arts to raise money and spread the word about its work.

According to the Sun Sailor, Dr. Tim Meade founded "Tiny Tim & Friends" in 2004 after Meade and his wife spent a month visiting their son in Zambia's capital, Lusaka. The couple were struck by the plight of children infected with HIV—the virus is able to easily pass from mother to child during childbirth—who could be tested for the disease thanks to work being done by local public health officials and nonprofits, but who could not be treated.

Meade will make a presentation about the nonprofit's work, and give attendees an opportunity to visit with him and to hear about how they can help. There is no admission fee, but the audience is encouraged to make donations.
