Youth Action Sports Outreach Group To Host Free Wax and Coffee Event

JSAW will hold the event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Those planning to hit the slopes this winter can receive a complimentary wax for their skis or snowboards and hot chocolate or coffee on their way to the hills.

Jesus Snow Asphalt Water, called simply JSAW, is an outreach ministry for youth action sports lovers that is hosting the event.

Many action sports-loving youth are “labeled as rebellious, destructive and extremely independent. Being sucked into that stereotype can lead to a wasted life,” said Jonny Nelson, the group's co-creator and chief financial officer. JSAW aims to help kids break out of that stereotype and help them find a deeper meaning to life.

Saturday's event also includes a rail jam, or snowboard contest. Additionally, there will be the premiere of 'Sup Bro, a snowboarding film featuring some of the best athletes in the country performing tricks and tackling difficult runs.

While JSAW has held coffee breaks, free board wax events and premieres before, this is the first combination event the group has attempted, said Nelson, an avid snowboarder, wakeboarder and skateboarder.

The event is expected to draw approximately 20-30 people, ages 10 to 20, interested in action sports and wanting a deeper connection with the world around them, he said. Although the group’s main focus is on action sports participants, the exposure has given JSAW opportunities to impact those outside the culture as well and everyone is welcome to attend.

Those interested in the group can contact Nelson at info@jsaw.org or attend one of the many events that the organization hosts. Information about this and other events is available on JSAW’s website and on its Facebook page.
