LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK FROM THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TO SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN BY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. PRECIPITATION WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA FROM THE SOUTHWEST TODAY...WHICH WILL BECOME ALL SNOW THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW IS FORECAST FROM LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY OVERNIGHT WITHIN 40 MILES OF A LINE FROM NEW ULM...TO THE TWIN CITIES METRO...TOWARD HAYWARD WISCONSIN. A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THOSE AREAS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT. SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE LIKELY AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ALSO POSSIBLE IN THE MAIN HEAVY SNOW BAND. TOTAL AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 9 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ALONG THAT LINE...WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS FROM THE TWIN CITIES METRO AND NORTHEAST. -

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 AM CDT TUESDAY.

* TIMING: RAIN WILL BEGIN TO OVERSPREAD THE AREA EARLY THIS AFTERNOON WHICH WILL CHANGE TO SNOW LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF OVERNIGHT. SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES THIS EVENING WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ALSO POSSIBLE.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION: 6 TO 9 INCHES.

* OTHER IMPACTS: NORTH WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH...WITH GUSTS OF 30 MPH...MAY LEAD TO PATCHY BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW TONIGHT.
