Nine places in Hopkins That Are Open on Christmas

The holidays can be a stressful time for those preparing family get-togethers or trying to make other plans, but a number of local restaurants and shops offer other options by keeping their doors open on Christmas day.  

In the mix are both small, independently owned places and larger national chains.

There are one-stop shops for household items, last-minute gifts and more. There are places for coffee drinkers to get their regular caffeine fix. And there are restaurants that have a variety of dining options—even one that offers two happy hours in the same day.

Here's a rundown of Hopkins places that are open on Christmas. 

What it does: This a national chain store sells everything from chocolate to flu shots.

Christmas hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why it's open on Christmas: The store is open 365 days a year for customers' convenience. "If people forget holiday items, they can always come back here," the manager said.  

What it does: Lindee's Saloon & Eatery is a neighborhood bar/restaurant with a pool table, pull tabs, darts, jukebox, Lingo, happy hour and more.

Christmas hours: 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. (two-for-one happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.)

Why it's open on Christmas: Christmas day hours are a longstanding tradition at Lindee's.

Curry 'N' Noodles

What it does: This Indo-Chinese bistro serves up a "harmonious yet adventurous blend of wok style cooking with Indian herbs and spices," according to its website.

Christmas hours: Buffet will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It reopens 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (only the regular menu will be available).

Why it's open on Christmas: Owner Prem Gollapalli said the nearly year-old place is staying open to "get the currying flavors to the community." 

What it does: The family-style chain restaurant has an American-style menu.  

Christmas hours: 8 a.m. and on (24 hours).

Why it's open on Christmas: The restaurant moved to a 365-day a year schedule last year, one restaurant representative said.

What it does: Grocery items and other goods are available at this market, which emphasizes Mexican cuisine and spices.  

Christmas hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What it does: The national coffee chain also serves teas, pastries and more.

Christmas hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why it's open on Christmas: The coffee shop is open 365 days a year.

Blake Grocery & Deli

What it does: This store offers various grocery and deli items.

Christmas hours: 7 a.m. to midnight

Halal Market

What it does: Halal Market carries a mix of grocery items and specializes in Halal meat and African, Arab, and Indian food.

Christmas hours: 8 a.m. to midnight

What it does: This gas station and market has everything from cornmeal to produce.

Christmas hours: 6 a.m. to midnight

Why it's open on Christmas: The market has been open on Christmas day for nearly 30 years, said Manager Tracy Ashley. "We have a lot of last minute items for people," she said, adding that it gives everyone a place to turn on a day where there are few options. "We want everyone to enjoy the holidays without being stressed out."
