New Food Shelf to Serve Hopkins Coming Soon

The new ICA location will be near the Hopkins/Minnetonka border, according to the Sun Sailor.

ICA Food Shelf will soon open a new location to fight hunger in the Hopkins area.

According to the Sun Sailor, the new location also comes with a new concept—a grocery store style setup.

The new concept comes out of the desire to provide more fresh produce to those in need, the article said:

"Currently, the food shelf prepackages food in bags worth about two weeks of food. With fresh produce only lasting up to six days, that means the organization can only provide 8 to 10 days worth of fresh produce a month Palm says.

"'That’s really something we’ve wanted to remedy,' Palm said."

The new 13,400-square foot location is located near the Hopkins and Minnetonka border on 11588 K-Tel Dr. Construction is expected to begin in a month and be finished by the end of the year, according to the Sun Sailor.
