Sounds of knives on a cutting board could be heard throughout the kitchen, smells of onion and garlic filling the air. Water bubbled in pots, chicken sizzled on pans. Mentoring Peace Through Art was teaching yet another important skill: how to prepare a healthy lunch.

On June 19th, Step Up teens gathered at the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach/Engagement Center for day two of training. But today was special. Not only did they continue to hone their painting skills, they were being taught how to cook.

"My biggest thing is kids do everything," co-founder of Mentoring Peace Through Art Connie Fullmer said. "We are here to teach the kids how to do it."

Whether it's setting up equipment, painting murals on a wall, or preparing healthy, sustainable meals, Mentoring Peace Through Art isn't about lecturing. It's about doing.
