The battle over unions is coming to Minnesota.
On Thursday, Lakeville Sen. Dave Thompson (R-District 36) detailed a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow workers to opt out of unions and avoid paying union dues.
“I believe nothing can be more at the heart of economic liberty than the ability to take a job to feed yourself and your family without having to pay the piper, without having to pay a third party,” Thompson said.
Chisholm Sen. David Tomassoni (DFL-District 5) countered that it would cut wages and benefits while making the rich richer.
“This so-called right-to-work constitutional amendment is nothing more than the right to work for less,” he said.
