'Three' Reasons to Participate: May 31

A weekly look at happenings in your local government

It's another quiet week, with only the Zoning and Planning Commission scheduled to meet. So here are three ways to participate in your local government:

Comment on the citywide sidewalk plan: Sidewalk projects are regularly a controversial proposition. Council members hope a master sidewalk plan would would give them something to point to when the inevitable objections arise over a specific project, let homeowners know what’s coming up and allow them to better prioritize scarce dollars. The Zoning and Planning Commission will work on the plan at its meeting Tuesday.

Learn about plans for the old Mayon Plastic Building: Stonehenge USA has submitted site plans to the city for a project at 415 17th Ave. N. dubbed “Stonehenge Hopkins Retail Center.” Learn more about those plans and share your thoughts during the Zoning and Planning Commission meeting.

Examine a Blake Road rezoning: The owners of 525 Blake Road, site of the old Knollwood Amoco Service Station, want the property rezoned from a “general business” property to a “neighborhood business” property. This would allow news types of business to take place on the site while prohibiting others. Find out more at Tuesday’s Zoning and Planning meeting.
