A new collection of public sculptures arrived in Hopkins on Friday for the second year of ArtStreet, joining the two pieces from 2011 that are staying in the city permanently.

On Friday, workers installed four new pieces at sites in Hopkins’ downtown. The pieces are:

  • "Salsa" by Richards Poey of Eden Prairie
  • "Letting Go" by Judd Nelson, of Wayzata
  • "Picking Tulips" by Cynthia Markle, of Lakeville
  • “Balancing Orbits” by Marie Schrobilgen, of St. Paul

Downtown visitors will also still be able to see Kyle Fokken’s “Shoo-Shoe Train,” last year’s children’s choice winner, and Poey’s “Like A Tree, Rooted in the Earth,” last year’s people’s choice winner.

(New ArtStreet sculptures are marked in blue pins in the map above. Permanent sculptures are shown in red pins.)

Artstreet is a collaboration between the city, the Hopkins Business & Civic Association and the Friends of the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The idea was sparked by a $10,000 Metropolitan Regional Arts Council grant. Hopkins solicited submissions, and judges selected five pieces for installation along Mainstreet in ArtStreet’s inaugural 2011 year.

ArtStreet sculptures remain in the downtown for a year and are available for sale.

People are encouraged to view the sculptures and vote on their favorite new addition. Ballots and information on the pieces are available at the Hopkins Center for the Arts or by downloading the PDF above this article.

There is also an artists’ reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the arts center.
