Former Rep. Michele Bachmann chief of staff and Bachmann for President Campaign Chair Andy Parrish decided to take the "Chris Kluwe Challenge" and engage the Minnesota Vikings' punter on a virtual discussion about the so-called Gay Marriage amdenment issue.
The back-and-forth began after Twitter user @joshuajhovey tweeted some foul language at Andy Parrish, deputy campaign manager for Minnesota for Marriage, an organization that supports the passage of the Marriage Amendment Act. The act would amend the state's constitution to read that marriage is between one man and one woman.
After the foul tweet, Parrish called on Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe to respond. Kluwe has been an outspoken supporter of same-sex marriage in Minnesota.

Let's all pray away the "pray away the gay" people like Marcus and Michele Bachmann. Now that's an amendment I would support and vote for.

Kluwe has indeed been outspoken, but I wish he would realize that the bad language, although it will rile up those already opposed to the amendment, is not helping his/the case, it only gives ammunition to the opposition. Use your voice and position in a positive way and you will be taken more seriously - as it is now, he looks to be a representative of the opposition, and he makes us all look like ranting, foul-mouthed, hot heads. Logical and rational arguments are more likely to persuade than bad language and an aggressive attitude.

Susan, Kluwe did use his voice. He may have included some rough language, but that's a choice he made. His comments were well-measured and poignant. I got his message loud & clear and i don't consider anything he's written on the topic to be "aggressive". Confrontational, maybe, but certainly not aggressive or hot-headed. You seem to have let 2 words (out of hundreds that he's written on the topic) distract you from his true message. That's a failing on your part, not his.

Thomas, I considered his original letter (I forget who it was written to) when I wrote my comment here, and my opinion on the entire subject. That letter was indeed full of bad language and even some aggressive words. I am glad that he has been vocal (I am on the same side), but if you listen to those supporting the amendment, you will understand my meaning. I just wish he would come at this with a more neutral tome as he would be taken more seriously by those who would actually consider his opinion on the subject.

You can see Kluwe's less profane, but still brilliant response to former Viking center Matt Birk's support of the amendment here:

he did not engage on a discussion of the marriage amendment, he avoided the whole discussion Kluwe wanted to have. Instead he tried to bring up the Vikings because he knew he was in over his head and has not rebuttals to the facts of the matter. Bad journalism

I agree, but how is that bad journalism?

I don't think Kluwe should adjust his "voice" one bit. He's out there on this issue and doing a great job getting publicity for the supporters of marriage equality. His methods may differ from others, but that's what makes what he's doing so effective. He's not being ignored, and his writing is eloquent and interesting. It's important that he not blend in with everyone else.

BobK-
the article stated:
"Andy Parrish decided to take the "Chris Kluwe Challenge" and engage the Minnesota Vikings' punter on a virtual discussion about the so-called Gay Marriage amdenment issue."
My point is that he did not engage in a discussion about the topic at had, he spun it into talking about the Vikings. It was flight or fight, he chose flight to which the article only paints the picture as he actually debated the topic which he did not. Kluwe wants him to, but he does not want to debate his side for some odd reason.

Agreed. Misleading headline and summary, but give Patch credit for putting the story out there.

First, unless there's a national ban on gay marriage (there will never be) Michelle Bachmann can't do anything for or against it... she's all talk on this.
Lastly, I'm watching the Vikings game and Chris Kluwe's crappy 20 yard punts... he needs to put down the phone and start practicing.
As far as allowing gay people to marry... why not? If they want to be miserable like the rest of us, have at it lol.
