Fundraising Book Fair Continues Online After Beginning at a Local Barnes & Noble
This is the first time Hopkins West and Hopkins North junior high schools have participated together to raise money through the online book fair.
Hopkins West and Hopkins North junior high schools aren't the end of the business day put an end to their book fair. After raising money at the Ridgedale Barnes & Noble to raise money for the schools' media centers, the schools are continuing the book fair online through Thursday, at bn.com/bookfairs.
The second-annual book fair featured entertainment by staff and students, free gift wrapping, a drawing for a $50.00 gift certificate and guest author Patrick Reusse signing copies of his two books.
"The online book fair is important to the school to capture sales from people who are not able to make it to the actual sale date," said Jeanne Stroud, administrative coordinator for West Junior High.
The book fair was an important source of money for the schools before the online version arrived. It brought it $800 for each school–20 percent of the $8,000 in gross sales. With the online fair, Stroud hopes to bring in more than $10,000 this year, which would allow schools to keep 25 percent of sales instead of 20 percent.
The fair is the only fundraiser dedicated to building the book collections of both schools. The fundraiser also pays for prizes in the schools' programs for reading and good behavior. The schools split all proceeds.
"We both have a great love for books and the payback to our school is well worth our time," said North Junior High Administrative Coordinator Mary Townsend.
