Former Hopkins Football Star Named Defensive Player of the Year

Marcus Williams, now a North Dakota State University cornerback, helped his team to another FCS Championship.

 

Former Hopkins standout Marcus Williams, who’s now a North Dakota State University cornerback, has been named the College Sporting News FCS 2012 Defensive Player of the Year, College Sporting News announced last week.

Williams helped his team to a 14-1 record in 2012 that culminated in NDSU’s second-consecutive Football Championship Subdivision title. The junior has played in all 29 games of his career, including 27 starts. He also has 11 career interceptions, with three returned for touchdows.

Williams was also named as one of six defense backs on the College Sporting News 2012 Fabulous Fifty FCS All-America Team.

Additionally, he was named to The Sports Network’s 2012 Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, which honors top defensive players in the FCS at the end of the season.
