DNR Burning Ban Takes Effect

The ban is in effect in 35 Minnesota Counties, including Hennepin County.

Burning restrictions began Monday in 35 Minnesota Counties, including Hennepin County, according to a Department of Natural Resources news release.

The restrictions, put in place each spring, are intended to reduce the number of wildfires.

Much of Minnesota is at increased wildfire risk because of warming weather and dry vegetation. The risk will remain high until green vegetation emerges.

No burning is allowed without a special permit from a local forestry office. Permits will only be issued for extenuating circumstances, such as time-sensitive construction and prescribed burns by professional firefighters.

The use of campfires, if smaller than three feet in diameter and three feet in height, will be allowed unless banned by local governments. Statewide permits are not required for these smaller campfires.
